Kids’ Meals for Parents

I’ve been known to down a Happy Meal or two since becoming a mom. However, consuming leftover fries and soggy chicken nuggets with mini teeth marks dotting the surface, has more to do with not wanting to waste food and money than with a personal preference for fast food kids’ meals. Quite honestly, I despise kids’ meals. And I could care less about Twilight. Nice to finally get that off my chest. So how is it that I am able to confess my distaste for two seemingly unrelated pop culture phenomenons in a single blog? Five words: Burger King Eclipse … Continue reading

McDonald’s Changes Its Menu

A friend of mine is on a diet. The doctor says his health is great, so maybe it is just a preventative thing, but he’s on the glycemic index diet. So, he’s watching carbs and calories. I’ve decided to try to lose the 30 pounds I’ve packed back on before it’s too late. After all, I turn 50 next year and I know that the older you are, the harder it is to lose weight. McDonald’s has no doubt played a part in my weight gain. Oh sure, Ronald McDonald didn’t hold me down and force the Big Macs down … Continue reading

Enter the Tyson “Show Us Your Nugget Face” Contest

Does your child love to eat chicken nuggets? If so, then you might want to enter the “Show Us Your Nugget Face!” Contest from Tyson Foods. Send them a photo of your child happily eating chicken nuggets, and that photo could appear in magazine ads and on a Times Square Billboard. It is no secret that there are a lot of children who enjoy eating chicken nuggets. Parents might not be so thrilled with this idea, especially if the nuggets in question are deep fried and come from a fast food restaurant. Kids, however, just want to eat something that … Continue reading

No King at Burger King

The other day we were driving home after running an errand and Jessie wanted an apple bag. She was very insistent about it. We passed Burger King first followed closely by McDonald’s. She cried from the back seat to turn around. She was really upset in the back. As we approached Walmart she wanted to get an apple bag there because there’s a McDonald’s inside. I kept driving home and as we approached the street where we’d turn, Jessie changed to wanting to go to Tom Thumb. We have a new tradition of getting a corn dog at the service … Continue reading

The Dirty Car

Today I’d like to get a little outside the home. I’d like to talk about my turtle shell, my roving home, my car. My car lives in the garage when it’s not taking me where I need to go. My car is a part of my home by extension. We leased the Light Sage Metallic Ford Escape in March, 2008. I really wanted the car in Kiwi Green Metallic, but the color was obnoxious on the lot. The color looked the way I anticipated it on the hybrid model, but we weren’t buying that. This has been a nice little … Continue reading

Devo Gets Mad-O at McDonald’s and Lilo’s Mystery Sis

If they could really “Whip It” they would probably choose to do so right at burger giant McDonald’s. Cult classic rockers Devo are furious that fast food chain McDonald’s is using the band’s likeness (or so claims the musical group) in a Happy Meal toy. The 80s hitmakers claim the “American Idol” tribute figure, New Wave Nigel, was based on their famous image, as seen in their popular “Whip It” video. Regarding the McDonald’s brouhaha, Devo bass player Gerald Casale, who came up with the punk rock band’s odd jumpsuited look, told news reporters: We’re in the midst of suing … Continue reading
